@julian ah, right! I meant, many Fediverse servers don't do a good job with caching headers, but you can use some of the data to guess if there have been changes. Caching headers are better though!

@elettrona yes, only Pros, see the ActivityPub Spec. which has exactly the same "addressing" fileds like mail … E.g. https://www.w3.org/TR/activitypub/#client-addressing @selfhosted

@heathenstorm@mastodon.social if the blog boosts posts by the author then it means your blog is visible on the threadiverse directly. Otherwise it will not be.

Does anyone have a good #ActivityPub integration for #Hugo? I'd like a link to posts to be published and then show comments on the blog. I've seen a few people get it to work.

Yesterday I shared Discover more of the Fediverse with tags.pub in my Pook-Emu Bee links for the day. The post introduces a new feature for the ActivityPub for WordPress plugin: Subscribing a site to the tags.pub relay for hashtag boosting. It provides the following instructions for self-hosted WordPress sites such as this one:For self-hosted WordPress sites, head to Settings → ActivityPub → Settings and scroll to the Relay section. Add one of these URLs:Inbox: https://tags.pub/user/_____relay_____/inboxShared Inbox: https://tags.pub/shared/inboxThe instructions offer two URLs and say “[a]dd one.” I added the second because it is more aesthetic. But I did wonder what the difference was between the two URLs. So too did commenter bocops:Could you explain the difference between the “Inbox” and the “Shared Inbox” relay URLs?Post author and ActivityPub for WordPress developer Matthias Pfefferle answered the question:from a user perspective there is none. you can use either one of them! While the instructions do say “[a]dd one of these URLs” and I interpreted the instructions correctly in the first instance, I will offer my two-cent take that it does raise a question why there are two URLs and how they may differ. I dealt (and will deal again) with this issue regarding site feeds. On NLJ, I make a point of promoting various feed formats, namely RSS, ATOM, RDF, and JSON. However, I am sensitive to the fact that many readers may not be familiar with feeds, much less different formats. Thus, I explain that RSS (our default) and ATOM should work in all feed readers, so most people should use one of those formats (usually RSS since that is the WordPress default at /feed/) unless they have a specific reason to use JSON (which I use to subscribe to NLJ in Miniflux) or RDF (that seems less likely but maybe there are some RDF fans out there). Regarding the tags.pub  post, I would recommend offering one link as a sort of “default” while adding a note (or footnote) on the distinction (if any) for people who may be interested. All that aside, tags.pub works for me and is a very nice feature for WordPress sites (both .com and .org) taking advantage of new Fediverse features. I tip my hat to Mr. Pfefferle and everyone who is working on it.

Socialhome v0.23.0 released [image: 065a7da4-203d-47e0-85c4-6800c2f0097d.png] Work continues towards a full replacement of the UI layer! @{alain@jase.social} has been hard at work again, working on both the UI layer, but also the backend and the federation library. Massive kudos This is the last release where it will be possible to use the old UI. The next release is expected to completely remove the old UI, which will be a much welcome clean-up of the code base. When updating, please note the instructions for running Socialhome with the new UI. The old setting to enable the new UI is gone, instead you will need to route to it using your reverse proxy. In the next release this will become mandatory as the old UI will disappear from the Socialhome backend container. While things are in flux, unfortunately there aren't very good example ways to run the Socialhome backend and the new frontend. We're hoping to improve on this with the next release, when the old UI will be fully removed. Please pop in our chat room if you have issues attempting to run Socialhome. Please note due to build issues with the old UI, arm images are not available for this release. If you need them, please ask in the chat room and we will figure something out. This is not all! The release of v0.23.0 also contains a bunch of other changes and fixes. See the full changelog. Additionally, the federation library has received a ton of changes and fixes which can be found here. Installing and updating We recommend using the Docker images. Notes on how to use the Docker images can be found in the docs. What is Socialhome? Socialhome is best described as a federated personal profile with social networking functionality. Users can create rich content using Markdown. All content can be pinned to the user profile and all content will federate to contacts in the federated social web. Federation happens using the ActivityPub and Diaspora protocols. Please check the official site for more information about features. Naturally, the official site is a Socialhome profile itself. Official site Documentation (for admins) Code repository (GitHub mirror) Chat room on Matrix Try Socialhome? If you want to try Socialhome first before trying to install it, register at https://socialhome.network and then ping us with a comment on the user name chosen to get the account approved. You can also request account approval in the chat room. This unfortunately approval step is due to spammers. Contribute Do you want to work on a Django and VueJS powered social network server? After realizing how many ultra-light and simple options there are to run small #ActivityPub servers on tiny servers, #ATProto seems even more insanely complex and unsuitable for an actually decentralized social web. While it's cool to see the momentum behind EuroSky, I can't help but wonder... why? It's all here. Just come on in and join us in the Fediverse.#snac #hollo #gotosocial

First 100: BadgeFed Explorer The verified Badge was issued to @Ryan D Pollard You ventured into uncharted territory and helped shape the BadgeFed project from the start. As one of the first 100 testers, your curiosity, feedback, and bug-finding instincts helped stabilize the platform. The fediverse will always remember your role in getting us off the ground—one crash, typo, and glorious bug report at a time. Earning Criteria: Awarded to the first 100 individuals who actively participated in the early testing phase of BadgeFed. This includes exploring the platform, submitting feedback or bug reports, and generally poking around where things probably weren’t ready yet. These badges are limited—no retroactive claims, no reruns, no exceptions. You were here. You mattered.. Issued on: 04/12/2025 03:44:20 Accepted On: 04/12/2025 03:45:46 Verify the Badge here. #badgefed #fediverse #activitypub #mastodon #IssuedByBadgeFed #_BadgeDrop

Am I correct that with #ActivityPub, any org can run a server with their name in the domain with each member getting their own username, but using #ATproto, every individual would need to get their own domain name? Are subdomains possible? And those would probably just redirect, the structure and costs meaning they probably don't actually represent an app view or PDS or whatever?#bluesky

Journey with self hosting for personal blog and fediverse@selfhostedHello, I followed the "selfhosted" instance on LemmyWorld in order to be able to talk about my experiences having them in order, without confusing criteria into Fediverse. Hoping they can be useful to others. Current setup: Hostinger vps kvm2 plan, Debian12, YunoHost, Hostinger's docker manager installed. Personal background: blind since birth, (I don't see), I'm mostly a computer power-user, worked and studied with ms-dos since 1989 until late 90s. Basic GNU/Linux knowledge in 2002, then interrupted in 2004. I don't care talking about disability when discussing unrelated topics but it's necessary in this case as my needs are quite different from others. So, I've been scared by self-hosting and have had shared hosting web sites until now. Until @_elena started self hosting her digital echosystem from scratch using YunoHost. Due to lack of drivers I stopped with Linux on my private machine, drivers for the Braille display I had, and then the uneffective (at least for my need) screen reader capabilities on Linux's GUI based distros. Finally in January 2026 I jumped in the dark after reading Elena Rossini's blog about YunoHost and having explored their demo pages. At the worst, I'll cancel the contract...In the end I've managed to run WriteFreely, WordPress, CastoPod and GoToSocial, just by YunoHost; but if someone says terminal knowledge is not needed, this is a complete lie. Where a system (such as YunoHost) can do the dirty work configuring postfix and nginx, I'll support it but it has its disadvantages: not every app can be installed through it. For me it's very difficult to create and look after a config file on my own, it's frustrating for a sighted to miss a punctuation sign, an apostrophe, an indent. Let alone for me! A single space skipped, can crash a system.A lie even saying that AI completely helps. It does solve some small, simple, immediate tasks but it has some mistakes as well. The so-called allucinations which create a real mess if you can rely on no personal skill.Such as "sudo yunohost tools cert-install", or similar. AI wrote "cert-install" while the real command is "cert install"! A power user can get rid of it and correct, a beginner with no command-line knowledge, just copies, pastes, and gets scared. My late attempt has been Madblog, a static markdown-based blogging platform with Fediverse activitypub in it, so I learned what Docker is and how it basically works. But I gave up, due to several timeouts and activitypub slow-downs. I think I'm going to use WordPress for blogging then. In case of comments it'll be more intuitive for non-fediverse folks.Hopefully share others' experiences as well! #ActivityPub #blind #fediverse #introduction #selfhost #selfhosting #WordPress #YunoHost
