Following threads will be available in #HolosSocial 1.10.0. You can subscribe to a thread and get notified when new replies arrive, even from accounts you do not follow. It works with standard #ActivityPub activities by sending a Follow targeting a post, with a polling fallback for servers that do not support it yet.

@holossocial@mastodon.social oh well that's interesting...
NodeBB supports following threads, but because there's no standardised support for it via AP, it is local-only.
Is there an FEP for this behaviour? Assuming it's the standard Follow-Accept flow

@julian I also receive notifications of this type on Friendica; basically, I can receive notifications about threads I've interacted with, even just by liking them. Before reading your post, I thought it was an Activitypub implementation.

We implemented it here as a non-federating activity. If we find you created either a follow or ignore activity inReplyTo a conversational activity in your copy of the conversation, we take these into consideration when importing conversation children into your inbox. Other sites do not need to be made aware of this.
Just sharing. Since nobody else will ever see these activities, I'm afraid there's nothing anybody can do to outlaw our usage and de-federate from us over it.  Please just drop this message into /dev/null if it violates some concept you hold dear.
