    😲…I just realized #FediCon is in the *same* venue as #FOSSY just *3* days before FOSSY starts!

    I'm sad we weren't all in touch as maybe together we coulda gotten a better venue deal, but I hope #Fediverse folks going to event will be able stay in Vancouver for FOSSY!

    Also, I suspect #SFC would welcome a Fediverse track at FOSSY…

          @evan@cosocial.ca @bkuhn@fedi.copyleft.org ah, that's just the site from last year.

          IIRC last I heard @reiver@mastodon.social was looking at venues at Simon Fraser University.

            😳…sorry I missed that the year listed on that site was clearly 2025 & it wasn't obviously “archived”.
            May I make lemonade out of my inability-to-tell-5-from-6 lemons & suggest that *maaaaybe*, depending in attendee count, perhaps #FediCon can be accommodated en-masse as a Community Track at #FOSSY? I hope you'll all just use the application form to suggest & then discussion can spark from there:

              @bkuhn@fedi.copyleft.org that's a good idea. It would maybe draw additional people who wouldn't normally travel to an AP only conference...

              And it'd make planning much easier!

                @julian @evan @bkuhn

                I have been looking for a venue, but I haven't booked one yet.

                (A cousin of mine died recently — so a number of things slowed down a bit recently. Including that.)

                  I wanted to go to FOSSY this year but I'm not keen on crossing the border. Those border patrol guys are especially nasty. Really disrespectful and I don't mean the Canadians.

                      @evan

                      Soon, someone should make sure to submit a track proposal. I'm not on the track selection committee so I can't promise acceptance, but I suspect what's called for is a pro forma proposal — noting the success of your event last year & include the attendee count you had from that.

                      From there, if accepted, someone from #SFC will be in touch on next steps.

                      If you are familiar w/ FOSDEM DevRooms, #FOSSY tracks are loosely based on that.

                        @sri

                        Have you considered global entry? I mean, every USA government program could disappear soon, but Global Entry is still running & while you have to do an interview w/ CBP, once you have it, typically you do not even need to talk with an agent to enter. Even non-citizens can get it.

                        It does require your fingerprints & photo to go in federal database (I.e., Palantir gets them), but I was already in that database from 1990s when I taught high school, which requires a federal background check.

                          @bkuhn yeah, we both have global entry. My wife just got it. But I heard they can easily rip it away too. Saw a few posts about it on LinkedIn. You can't really trust these guys either way. Safer to fly in.
