But Mastodon's implementation of the spec is highly opinionated, and only one way to use it. I can't see why AP+FEPs couldn't give us social networking, and look forward to reading your argument for why it can't, and why you recommend instead.

@spacebuffer We took over an instance with about 600 Mau. We started with 10gb and quickly doubled it to 20gb as we were getting out of memory errors. Database and system are about 500gb of disk. Media cache is about 1TB hosted off site. I think we're around 10 cpu cores.

@silverpill Thanks for the hint. This was part of the problem. So I made progress and am now fixing the other things I messed up.

@andrewmacleod @peertube it seems like that is just an andoid app. Do you know if anyone has forked it so it can be self hosted and accessed as a website? I basically don't use youtube on phone at all (plus I'm on iphone).

It grows slowly but things will get better and smoother.Mobilizon seems to be finally tackling some interoperability issues, Gancio is just getting a fresh amazing UI. WordPress will get more stable and feature rich (GatherPress plugin). LAUTI will eventually join the party too, or Bonfire. I guess if those are successful, Hubzilla or Friendica might become more flexible on events as well, I am not up to date with their status quo though. But I am about to have a look.

@julian yes. BadgeFed has an API. But the concept is really simple, it is a Note (or Document) that has an attachment. The attachment is a property of the ActivityPub object usually used for videos or images. In this case the attachment includes a full OpenBadge object.The only restriction is that the Note attributed (activitypub actor) MUST be the url in the OpenBadge issuer (issuer = actor). Also the recipient url from the OpenBadge SHOULD be mentioned in the Note.With this simple mechanism you can pretty much create a compatible badge that can be decentralized with BadgeFed.

It is a limitation of the Mastodon platform that it will not notify unless you are directly mentioned. Possible solution is for me to just sneak in a mention even if it is not in text, but I don't much like that approach.

@scott Wider distribution and supporting free software are both my priorities.Today, most Rust servers are (A)GPL licensed. I expect that fedi developers will continue to favor copyleft licenses, so I released the library under AGPLv3.If I meet someone who wants to use this library in a MIT/Apache licensed project, we can talk about changing the license. @hongminhee @silverpill ah, wait, i remember now -- the issue is that Codeberg Pages doesn't set CORS headers at all, which means javascript jsonld parsers like the one on the playground won't work.although per https://codeberg.org/git-pages/git-pages#:~:text=CORS it seems that a _headers file might allow manually enabling CORS for the site?

@hongminhee @kopper I'm too stupid to understand AP specifically (but I have a deep CS background).. I've always wondered why this wasn't the model by default? Using UUIDv7 you could mark every in order of timetime.I think you could push the separation of intents further. Make a "AP post" hold all of the metadata, but make the actual text an attachment like an image, video, audio etc.. then you could just store all of the text in blobs in storage to be easily replicated/mirrored and deleted on bulk... "even as ciphertext" requiring the original toot to fetch and decrypt.also. I think the idea of attaching a user to an instance (domain) was always a mistake. A user should be whoever owns the key material on a frontend (endpoint), and it should be able to ask any "client in your meaning" to be it's new primary location (they can be AP broadcast... user with public key X is now defaulting to client Y)... BUT all of this is fan fiction, nobody has even solved the storage problem. We're still defaulting to 10,000 S3 buckets.Turning media URIs from dedicated single URLS to magnet:<hashes> that can be pulled down from multiple locations incase the original dies feels like REALLLLLY low hanging fruit that nobody has touched (and It kind of annoys me nobody has).
